What Bont Elim say
“The reduction in our electricity bill each month is a game changer for us. I am now running the whole site for less than two pounds a day. We can reinvest the money which has been saved into community activities and good causes. I am keen to help in the hope that other community buildings will step out and install solar panels and batteries on their buildings.”
Rev N Jason Beynon, Pastor, Bont Elim Community Church
Project challenges
Bont Elim Community Church is an active community church and hub in near-constant use. The installation of the Solar PV and battery storage had to be scheduled in agreement with the Pastor, working around the church’s calendar. The aim was to ensure minimal disruption from the scaffolding and installation, so the church could continue to operate while the works were carried out.

Overview
Heatforce was appointed by Bont Elim Community Church to conduct a technical survey and design and install a Solar PV system with battery storage for their community church and hub. The buildings are in near-constant use by the local community for worship, youth groups, weddings, community events, deliveries and workshop activity. Bont Elim Community Church is a registered charity that wanted to reduce its electricity costs for the building.
Rising electricity costs had been absorbing a growing share of the charity’s income. Bont Elim were looking for a Solar PV and battery storage solution to help reduce their electricity bills and allow the church to generate and use energy to run the building in the evenings and overnight.
Since installation, Bont Elim Community Church has cut its electricity costs by 44% in the first seven months, saving around £1,800 to reinvest in community activities and good causes. The 21.84 kWp roof-mounted Solar PV array and six battery storage units are expected to generate over 16,300 kWh of clean energy a year, reducing the building’s carbon footprint while keeping the church and hub — in near-constant use for worship, youth groups, weddings and community events — running affordably day and night. The installation itself was scheduled in agreement with the Pastor to work around the church’s calendar, so the building stayed open and in use throughout the works.
Measures installed
